Functional Oriental Wakizashis

The daisho is an important part of the Samurai's weapons. Consisting of two weapons, the daisho (which translated, literally means 'big little') consists of the katana and the wakizashi. At Dark Knight Armoury, we carry a number of wakizashi, many of which are inspired by our katana, so that if you desire, you can make your own matched daisho pair to complete your samurai style. A common question is why did samurai need two swords? Traditionally, the daisho was worn almost everywhere the samurai went...except when they were taken in as guests in a lord's home, in which case, the katana was left at the door, out of polite courtesy. The wakizashi, though, which is, in essence, a smaller katana, was kept at the samurai's side, for easy use, should he be attacked while indoors. Many of the wakizashi found here at Dark Knight Armoury are fully functional, which makes them a great companion to their matched katana, as well as a fine cutting weapon and battle blade to own and wield, in their own right. They can be wielded singly, just as the samurai would have in early history...or you can mimic the style of famed Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, who pioneered the technique of 'nito ichi', and wield your katana alongside its matched wakizashi ('nito ichi' is Japanese, and it translates to 'two swords as one'). Many of the functional oriental wakizashi, like their katana brothers, feature emblems and designs traditional of Japanese design, including dragonflies, kami, koi, flowers, and more, which makes many of ones found here at Dark Knight Armoury as deadly as they are beautiful...and as suited for display as they are for use.
