Born of the Italian renaissance, the Cinquedea Short Sword was a popular personal weapon during the 15th and early 16th centuries. Named for its width (cinquedea means five fingers), it was a weapon favored by civilians, thanks to its hardy make. Small is hardly an appropriate word for this short sword, as its length belies the blades width, which serves to make it a hardy and powerful weapon, in the right hands. Historically, the wide blade was also useful for engraving and decoration, too. This recreation of the cinquedea features a wide, triangular blade with a rounded point and a shallow yet wide fuller, which is bisected by a ridged spine. The curved guard angles towards the point, with its concave section fitting the blade, while the ornate hilt features brass disc accents along its length. The blade is made entirely from EN45 high-carbon steel, and it includes a leather-wrapped wood scabbard that features brass fittings at its throat and chape, as well as wearing rings on either side. Traditionally favored as a defensive weapon for civilians, this Cinquedea Short Sword is a great addition to any outfit that needs an effective looking blade, but one smaller and more easily concealed then the renaissance long sword or rapier.
