The musket, though the prime weapon of the French Musketeers, was a cumbersome firearm, both to load and fire, so a good rapier was a necessary second weapon. Made from 1065 high-carbon steel, this elegant rapier sword has an unsharpened edge along its blade. Its geometry is better for thrusting, rather than cutting.
The basket of this rapiers hilt is ambidextrous, meaning that can be held with the left or right hand. A engraved cross adorns the basket guard. Also, the hilt features a very effective mix of both the cup-hilt and swept-hilt styles. The grip is wood wrapped with twisted wire and the parts of the hilt are plated with gleaming nickel silver. The Musketeer Main Gauche (401348) can be purchased separately.
In addition, this sword comes with an elegant scabbard. Dark blue leather covers the wooden scabbard. It has a steel chape and throat. Add this functional rapier to your weaponry collection or musketeer décor. It also makes a great thrusting weapon at a reenactment.
